Italy: Izzo and Gagliardini replace injured Marchisio
Italy national team coach Giampiero Ventura has called Genoa defender Armando Izzo and Atalanta midfielder Roberto Gagliardini to replace the Juventus midfielder.
Marchisio is said to be suffering an overuse injury at his left thigh. The Italy midfielder returned to action a couple of weeks ago after being sidelined for over six months with a knee injury.
The 30-year-old midfielder will have medical tests before returning to training with Juventus.
As we mentioned below, Ventura has decided to replace Marchisio with Izzo and Gagliardini. Izzo, 24, has 11 appearances and one assist for Genoa so far this season and could make his first appearance with Italy national team either against Lichtenstein or Germany.
Gagliardini has also got his first senior call-up to Italy national team. The 22-year-old midfielder has two assists in eight games with La Dea so far this season and has seven appearances and two goals with U-21 Italy national team.
Andrea Barzagli has also been withdrawn from senior Italy national team due to a shoulder injury. Fiorentina defender Davide Astori is being called to replace the Juventus defender.
