Inter, Icardi: Ausilio fixes the price
The Olympic Games football tournament will probably not involve Inter striker Mauro Icardi, even though he has been included in the provisional 57-man squad for Argentina, and his season is over after picking up an injury against Empoli on Saturday. Below is an extract from an article that appeared in today's La Gazzetta dello Sport;
THE JUDGMENT
Next weekend’s game against Sassuolo was to be his last of the season for Inter, the place where he had a confrontation with the curva last season. There won’t be a repeat performance this time however, after his campaign finished in the 65th minute of Saturday’s win against Empoli when he picked up a thigh injury. Tomorrow he will undergo some tests but his season has finished with 16 goals in 33 games in Serie A. Now he will go on holiday with his family and it’s unlikely he will be included in the final 18-man squad for the Olympic Games in Rio, as there is only room for two strikers and this looks like being Dybala plus one between Calleri and Vietto.
THE TRACKS OF THE MARKET
Icardi should then be able to focus himself on next season when the nerazzurri return to training at the beginning of July before heading for the USA for games against PSG and Bayern Munich. This is the sort of opposition that Icardi dreams of playing against in the Champions League with Inter and this is the danger for nerazzurri fans, should the right bid be tabled. Rumours from England suggest that West ham United may even be prepared to offer €35 million but for anything less than €40 million, Ausilio and company would not even sit round the table. Even if an agreement could be found with a prospective buyer, Icardi and his family would have to be convinced to move from a city where they now feel at home. Icardi is maturing and has already turned down a chance to go to Real Madrid in the past; we will await further developments with interest.
