Inter face Milan hurdle in San Siro revamp
Now, he plans to meet Milan VP Barbara Berlusconi on Thursday afternoon to make some progress on the Stadium situation. Neither Inter or Milan own San Siro, and need another source of income if they are to truly compete with Europe's Elite.
What has been done so far
Objectively speaking, not a heck of a lot. Last year, it looked like the two Milanese teams would go their separate ways, with Barbara Berlusconi strongly pushing the Portello envelope, with Milan hoping to use build their own stadium. That one didn't work out. Whilst this went on, former Inter GM Marco Fassone was planning to revamp San Siro as an Inter-only stadium. Regrettably, the scuppering of Milan's plans put paid to this adventure, too.
There is some good news for Milan: the Giuseppe Meazza is currently being revamped (notably with the addition of a number of Sky Boxes and other VIP accomodation), but it won't be enough to be a true earner.
It gets worse: Erick Thohir's ambitious plan to knock down the San Siro's third ring, reduce the seating to 60.000 and adding shops and restaurants accessible from all the stadium are all good and well... but will need Milan to fork out half of the €100 million needed to buy out the property. Ouch!
Can you guess whether Milan are up for it or not?
All roads lead to a more moderns stadium... but they're all long, and arduous.
