Three wins, two draws and three defeats have left Inter coach Frank de Boer’s future hanging by a thread. With just 11 points from their opening eight league games, the clubs minimum requirement of finishing in a Champions League spot now looks difficult. Despite all the polemic surrounding Mauro Icardi in recent days, it was Sporting Director’s Piero Ausilio’s declaration after Sunday’s defeat to Cagliari that; “We must correct the errors sooner rather than later”, that would have brought home to the Dutchman the seriousness of the situation and why he must achieve positive results against Southampton in Thursday’s Europa League tie and Atalanta next Sunday.
