Insigne believes Napoli can claim Serie A glory
Called-up by senior Italy national team Antonio Conte, the Napoli winger hold a press conference from Coveriano, the Azzurri headquarter and training ground in Florence.
“I am thankful to Antonio Conte for the call-up - the Napoli star begun. I hope I am going to pay back the coach confidence on the pitch."
The 24 year old didn’t join his teammates for the evening training session as he suffered from a minor knee injury which has been cured by Italy medical staff, in accordance with Napoli medicals. Despite this, the player is feeling good.
“I am in a good shape at the moment, but I know I still have done nothing. That’s just a starting point to me. I still need to work, grow and develop. If I’m here [Italy's team], that’s mainly thanks to my parents, who have done lot of sacrifices for me.”
After his considerations as an Italy national team football player, his thoughts swiftly go to his last amazing delivers as the current Napoli star.
“I have never doubted about Maurizio Sarri’s skills [despite a slow start]. He noticed that the 4-3-1-2 was not working and he swift the system to a 4-3-3 that we are all feeling most confident with.”
“I enjoy playing as a winger and with Sarri in charge I have more freedom rather than under Benitez, with whom, by the way I have never had any problem. I grew up a lot with him under the defensive point of view.”
As we reported yesterday, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis in willing to offer the Napoli-born ace a contract extension and a pay rise in the next few weeks and it seems that the idea is also finding the player’s agreement.
“Since I am a child, my dream has always been wearing the Napoli shirt. I want to stay here for as long as possible. I was struggling a bit at the beginning, but now fans have restored their confidence in me.”
Talking about Napoli chances to fight for a Serie A title this year, Insigne didn’t preclude any surprising result for his club:
“I guess it is still too early to think about it as we have just played seven matches thus far. We need to be careful, but at the same time we will try our best to be among the Serie A pretenders till the end of the season”.
