Napoli: the renaissance of Insigne and the demands on his contract renewal
Finally, the real Lorenzo Insigne looks to have returned to Napoli. His long goal drought ended at the Dacia Arena on Saturday night as his brace helped the partenopei to three much needed points. The Italian international’s future however, is far from decided as his hometown club look to try to find an agreement on a new deal.
The request of Insigne is for a renewal until 2021 with a salary of €5 million a season, which doubles his current earnings. In addition to this, there is the question of image rights; so often a stumbling block in any negotiations involving Aurelio De Laurentiis. In short, an agreement is still a way off but talks are continuing. Insigne wants to stay at Napoli and Napoli wants Insigne to stay but economically, the figures just don’t add-up.
There has already been a survey last summer from Inter with Napoli trying to prize Mauro Icardi away from the nerazzurri. Eventually, the Argentine frontman got his new improved deal at the San Siro as Insigne was left contemplating his future. Courted by many clubs around Europe, this mini re-birth has eased the pressure on the 25-year-old as negotiations continue.
