Can Insigne free himself from Napoli using Article 17?

Lorenzo Insigne’s future at Napoli remains uncertain. Some of Europe’s heavyweight clubs including Barcelona, Juventus and Atletico Madrid have remained alert to his possible availability but Inter are the team that may have something concrete in the pipeline.

    ARTICLE 17
There has even been talk of the possibility that the 25-year-old may use the Article 17 rule of FIFA to try to free himself from his current contact at the San Paolo, paying President De Laurentiis €10-15 million in compensation before making his move to the nerazzurri. In reality, this scenario is impossible and it can only be realized under certain conditions:

    1.    The cancellation of the contract must take place outside the so-called protected period which is the first two-years for a player over the age of 28, three-years for those under the 28. On November 3rd 2014, Insigne renewed a contract until 2019  so he would have to wait until next summer to exercise this right.
    2.    The cancellation must be communicated in writing within 15 days from the last official game played by his club.
    3.    The player must pay compensation to his former club
    4.    The player whose contract is cancelled will not move to another club from the same championship.

     RENEWAL
Insigne currently earns €1.1 million net per year and he clearly believes that he merits a pay increment. De Laurentiis should consider his options carefully and may be wise to consider a renewal similar to the one he has just offered Hamsik.
