Higuain opens his heart; "We are people first, then footballers, it hurts so much to see my mother so ill"

In a revealing interview with TycSports in Argentina, Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain has been talking about his life in football. The 28-year-old, whose move from Napoli to Turin in the summer made him the most expensive player in Serie A history, began by explaining that; “Football is my life but it’s not the only important thing. People are free to judge and criticise but we people first, then footballers”.

He continued; “I don’t play football to please everyone, there will always be someone who doesn’t admire what I do”. When asked about the controversial move from Napoli to Juventus which sparked outrage in the Southern city Higuain stated that; “It was a bad time but now I have to look forward, I have a deep love for this sport and I still have a long career ahead of me”.

On his first few months in Turin he explained that; “You have to remember there were still doubters and it’s impossible for anyone to evaluate if you are a good player or not after just seven matches. When you score you are the best and when you miss chances you are the worst”. Moving on to life with the international squad in Argentina he stated that; “I have always received support from the players and the technical staff here and I’ve never considered retiring from international football”
Finally he opened up his heart to discuss his sick mother by explaining that; “It kills me to see my mother ill, I feel like it’s not fair after everything she has done for me. I sometimes say to her mum, you don’t want to suffer anymore”.
