From the US of A with love: Meet Christian Pulisic, the “New Figo”
Born on the 18th of September 1998 in Hernshey, Pennsylvania, Pulisic quickly acquainted himself with he beautiful game, as his dad was a professional indoor football player.
Pulisic went on to live in England for a year in 2005, adding Manchester United star Wayne Rooney to the list of his sporting idols.
When he made his comeback in the USA, ‘Cris’ kicked off his career for the Michigan Rush and at the Soccer Development Academy Side PA Classic.
When he was only 14, he was shortlisted among the 80 Best American Prospects, and since then he has always featured in all the youth USA National teams.
Being the holder of a Croatian passport, Pulisic joined the Borussia Dortmund academy in 2014 after the Bundesliga giants scouted him during an U-17 tournament he played in Turkey with the Stars and Stripes.
His impact has been devastating: so far,he has registered five assists and netted one goal. Jurgen Klopp is reported to have an extremely high opinion of the young American prospect, the Liverpool boss scouting Pulisic a couple of times when he was in charge at the Signal Iduna Park.
The 17-year-old is waiting for his turn at Borussia Dortmund, having already trained with the club’s senior team along with Black and Yellows stars Marco Reus, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
As an American, Pulisic is eager to follow the footsteps of US National Team legends Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey. We hope he doesn't turn out to be another Freddy Adu, who made his MLS debut at the age of 14, but has failed to live up to expectations throughout the rest of his career having changed 12 teams in 10 years.
