FOCUS Why De Boer won't last at Inter

Inter travel to Bergamo on Sunday, where Corrado Orrico’s men were beaten 1-0 bacn in 1991/1992, prompting his resignation and replacement by the legendary Luis Suarez.

There are some differences with today’s situation: the squad (better than the team back then, but in an inferior league) is behind its coach. The similarity? That the club doesn’t trust its coach.

It’s the cold, hard truth, despite what ownership and directors have said. Though us journalists are accused of lying in order to destablizing the Nerazzurri, I can gaurantee that this isn’t the case.

Part of the problem is that it’s hard to define who represents “the club”: is it Erick Thohir, who chose Thohir but now finds himself with limited powers? Is it Zhang, who is in China, or Javier Zanetti, who is preparing the ground for Diego Simeone, or potentially an interim man like Leonardo or Capello?

Director of sport Piero Ausilio recently revealed that De Boer had turned down club legend Giuseppe Baresi for his staff. Why did Ausilio reveal this? De Boer himself has criticized the club for how it handled the Icardi situation.

A well-run club would have formed square by now, maybe advising its coach before games, and certainly not critizing him after. It’ll be hard for FDB to take his project to completion at Inter. I hope I’m wrong.
