FOCUS Players reveal that Inter's problems lie in the dressing room... and at the top

Inter’s Matchday 1 defeat to Chievo has already put Frank De Boer under siege, a mere 14 days after he replaced the sacked Roberto Mancini.

Though his choices and formation haven’t convinced many, a better indication of Inter’s problems can be found in Samir Handanovic and Danilo D’Ambrosio’s post-match interviews.

“Many things have angered me,” the goalkeeper said in a rare loquacious interlude, “we need to realize that we have played a bad game and turn over a new leaf.

“I could speak of a thousand alibis, but I don’t like looking for those.

“We know we’re not on top form, we toured America with half the squad and haven’t had much time to train. It isn’t the Coach’s fault".

Rather than De Boer, then, it seems like the Nerazzurri’s ownership is to blame, with Thohir, Suning and Moratti all having their say in the running of the team and creating a lot of confusion at the time of Mancini’s sacking.

If Danilo D’Ambrosio is to be believed, however, the lack of leaders in the locker room didn’t help, either. Both Mauro Icardi and Marcelo Brozovic sound disaffected, too.

“If we change his mentality, then we can earn quite some satisfaction from this season. We need to take example from Juventus’ 2015-2016, when they turned things around after starting the season lacking the same drive.”

“It’s not easy to say this, but we could have even played badly, but we certainly had to win. That’s the truth.

“This isn’t the Inter who won the Treble. We can reach out objectives only if we maintain cohesion. If we think we can win with D’Ambrosio playing like Maicon, then we’ve got it all wrong: I have other qualities. We can’t play as individuals”.
