Fiorentina-Milan ends in a draw as Illicic misses a PK

It was an interesting match between two good squads competing for a European spot. Fiorentina came into the game with 7 points (and 1 game in hand) were as Milan were sitting on 9 points. It was also the return of Vincenzo Montella and Riccardo Montolivo in Florence,as they both have had a Fiorentina past.

In the end, Josip Illicic penalty kick miss (his first ever on his 9th attempt) proved decisive as both teams held out for a 0-0 draw. The penalty kick was awarded to Fiorentina in the 27th minute because of a Davide Calabria hold on Borja Valero in the penalty box.

The second-half proved to be entertaining as both teams opened up a little which lead to many chances as Niang,Bonaventura and Bacca all had chances to put Milan ahead but failed to do so. On the other side of the field, Borja Valero and Kalinic had chances that were blocked by Milan keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The game ended in dubious fashion as Milan were furious that the referee did not award them a last-minute foul for a Tomovic tackle on Luiz Adriano (which was just outside the penalty box).

In the end, both team's earn a point as the hunt for a European spot remains balanced.
