Fiorentina and Sousa will likely part ways, no matter how well they do. Here's Why
Where do Fiorentina stand with former Swansea Coach Paulo Sousa?
Currently stuck in eighth place, the Viola appear to be non-committal about current manager Sousa. If anything, the vibes we’re getting from the club are that the two parties will part ways… whatever happens.
Why? Pantaleo Corvino’s words (“We have an option for another year, but we’ll only pick it up if we’re all in agreement”) say a lot about what the club thinks. It doesn’t want to continue with the Portuguese Coach, despite the team’s very strong start to last season, which resulted in Fiorentina finishing in fifth place. If Fiorentina don’t earn European qualification, it seems obvious that the two sides will part ways.
This is quite the reversal for a club that had done everything to keep Sousa last season, not to mention during the summer. Owners Diego and Andrea Della Valle are simply not convinced at the moment, though sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has postponed the issue until the end of the season.
That said, the Viola aren’t the only aggrieved party: it is no secret that Sousa has been unhappy with the way the Tuscan side has failed to invest so far.
Even if things were going to well, conversely, it looks like Sousa will dump Fiorentina, anyway.
