FILM ROOM: Josef Martinez toasts Udinese's defence, but can he be consistent?

    What a game, eh?

Those of us who reluctantly moved from EPL action to Udinese - Torino were certainly not expecting to see six goals, nor indeed Torino unsheath a talent who has arguably remained far too long in Giampiero Ventura's scabbard.

22-year-old Josef Martinez stunned us all today, netting twice and begging the question: why the heck had he only played 786 minutes (little more than the injury-plagued Mario Lemina) this season, when Fabio Quagliarella and even Ciro Immobile haven't lived up to expectations?

Check out his two goals here:

Martinez later showcased his clinical finishing once again after a horrific blunder from Udinese's defence... With Torino's season arguably ending weeks (if not months) ago with the extinction of their residual Europa League dreams, the Genoese Coach has finally decided to give Martinez a good run of games. The young Venezuelan has answered. Emphatically.

So, why has he been sat so much? The competition (Quagliarella, Maxi Lopez, Immobile, Andrea Belotti) is a good start, though Martinez's youth and inaccuracy have cost him before.

Finishes like this, for example, are frankly hair-ripping material.  Against Roma, for example, Martinez was responsible for this...
And this moment, which was utter perfection until it blew up in his face
That's horrifying. He'd done everything so well. Had he scored, Torino would have taken a point home. Then again, Martinez is only 22, and has clearly shown that he can play in Coach Ventura's system.
...and that he can create something from nothing.

The future is bright for this youngster. Very bright.
Let's just hope he keeps it up.
