EXCLUSIVE: Udinese director urges Widmer to stay at club
The Viola are reportedly on the look-out for a versatile player for the right flank, capable of slotting in both in defence and in midfield, and Widmer is seen as one of the prime candidates and has been tracked by the Tuscan outfit for some time.
Calciomercato.com caught up with the outgoing Udinese director Cristiano Giaretta to find out more about a possible assault for Widmer who has been plying his trade for the Bianconeri for three years: "For me, Widmer should stay another season at Udinese because he still hasn’t fully developed from a technical standpoint. What’s more, he is also starting to establish himself with the Swiss national team with whom he will take part at Euro 2016 in France.”
Pressed about whether Fiorentina have enquired or not over a potential move, this was Giaretta’s reponse: “It is still too early to talk about this because there hasn’t been any real contact with Fiorentina. The same applies for other clubs, but soon the transfer window reopens. Udinese’s aim is to keep a hold of its key players and have a competitive squad and Widmer is without a doubt a key player.”
