EXCLUSIVE: Sporting Director reveals Napoli interest for Serie B wonderkid
The product of AS Monaco Academy is chased by a number of Serie A clubs and, according to the club’s Sporting Director Matteo Superbi, current Serie A leaders Napoli have also set sights on the 19-year-old player.
Mr. Superbi, have Napoli joined the race to sign Cheik Keita?
“Yes, they have. But I can’t say who’s leading it right now.”
Did Udinese make an early move to sign him? “Yes, that’s true. They are interested in signing him and they are monitoring his performances.”
Are you in transfer talks with Granara?
“It could be an option. We are aware that the family Pozzo own both Udinese and Granada, in turn I wouldn’t rule out Watford move too, but they have to tell us which club they want Keita to join.”
Would you prefer to sell the player on a permanent basis, or are you planning to keep him on loan until the end of the season?
“That’s exactly what we’d like to do. The club believe in Keita and we think that he should remain with us until the end of the season to continue his growth process. Of course, it really depends on the offer that we are going to receive. When you are in transfer talks for such a young player, it is always difficult to get the price right because both parties don’t know exactly which kind of player he will become.”
What about Roma? Are they also interested?
“They’ve scouted the player but we haven’t been hearing anything from them of late. Sassuolo and Atalanta are also in hunt, let’s see how the situation will develop.”
