EXCLUSIVE Romano – Milan turned down Newcastle approach for Niang
The Frenchman spent the second part of the 2014-2015 campaign on loan at Genoa. His five goals in 14 games at the Stadio Marassi, convinced Sinisa Mihajlovic not to sell the Frenchman in the last transfer window. Niang has repaid his boss’ trust scoring a vital brace in yesterday’s 4-1 success over Sampdoria.
The 20-year-old striker had an unlucky start to the season as he missed the first 11 games of this campaign due to a metatarsal fracture. Despite his physical hassle, Milan rejected a Magpies’ € 8 million offer last summer and the Diavoli are now reaping the rewards from the choice they made.
Genoa were also interested in the player’s services as they tried to renew his loan at the club. Milan rejected the Grifone’s bid and extended Niang’s stay at San Siro with a new contract expiring in 2019.
