EXCLUSIVE ROMANO: Juve, that call for Draxler &...the midfield: the background

Last summer he was becoming an obsession as Juventus attempted to lure Julian Draxler to Serie A trying every strategy. The highly-rated German midfielder was at Schalke 04 at the time and in the end, he plumped for Wolfsburg over Turin but 12 months on, the scenario is now very different.

    THE CALL TO WOLFSBURG
Having now told his current employer that he wants to leave the club, Juve executives have moved quickly to assure the German club that they “Are not interested” and that they have “Not made any contact”. It’s a move in part, to keep good relations with the club for future discussions. Juventus now has Pjaca for that role in the team; Draxler will have to look elsewhere.

    MORE NEGOTIATIONS
Another reason to keep Wolfsburg happy is the fact that they are talking to them about the possible sale of striker Simone Zaza. The Bundesliga outfit want the Italian international and are prepared to give the bianconeri around €25 million but there is another reason that is even more Important and that’s the possibility of an assault on midfielder Luis Gustavo. The 29-year-old is one of the frontrunners to provide early season cover for the injured Marchisio and Khedira along with Matuidi and Matic. Wolfsburg won’t make a discount for their Brazilian as they don’t need the money so this is why Juve want to be clear on the Draxler situation. Gustavo tops the list ahead of the two previously mentioned and also Axel Witsel, for which there are no further developments. One thing is secure however; Draxler will not be arriving in Turin this summer.
