EXCLUSIVE: Musonda, the Belgian starlet who has won over AS Roma

Attacking midfielder Charly Musonda has caught the eye of capital club AS Roma who have made initial contact with the player’s agent and his parent club Chelsea over the past few days. Born in 1996, Musonda is also comfortable in a wide role in either a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 and the talent for football clearly runs in the family. Musonda is none other than the son of Charles Musonda senior, the ex-Anderlecht midfielder, who survived a tragic plane crash on the coast of Gabon in 1993.

Born in Brussels, the latest generation of the Musonda family came through the Anderlecht youth sector. As early as 2012 he caught the attention of leading European clubs and in 2012 even turned down an offer from Barcelona who had invited him to meet coach at the time Pep Guardiola. Chelsea stole a march though on all rivals and signed him for over 2 million pounds that same year. The English outfit also brought to London his brothers Tika and Lamisha, also footballers. Despite not being the tallest, Musonda still left his mark with the Blues winning the Uefa Youth League in 2015.

In January, the London club sent him to Real Betis on loan where he has made 16 appearances and netted 1 goal. The talented midfielder has been compared to a number of illustrious stars such as Iniesta and Hazard, although he has admitted that he looks up to Cristiano Ronaldo. Like the Portuguese winger he certainly doesn’t lack in confidence either and when asked who was his idol, he said “I am”. Confidence and talent in abundance, but if the Giallorossi want to land their man they will have to find at least 8 million euros.
