EXCLUSIVE: How AC Milan could line up under new manager Cristian Brocchi
Cristian Brocchi took his first training session as AC Milan manager today with the next Serie A game against Sampdoria which is just around the corner.
Brocchi will obviously confirm teenager Gigio Donnarumma as the team’s goalkeeper. The Italian manager had already coached the 17-year-old shot-stopper before Mihajlovic promoted him to the senior team at the beginning of the season.
Alessio Romagnoli will not lose his starter status under the new manager, with Alex and Christian Zapata still battling it out to partner with the former Sampdoria wonderkid in the heart of the Rossoneri’s defense.
AC Milan’s new coach is expected to revolutionize the Diavoli’s midfield and attack. The former Primavera team coach will adopt a three-man midfield with a playmaker deployed in front of the defensive line. Everything in the middle of the pitch should pass through Riccardo Montolivo, with Juraj Kucka playing as right mifdielder and one between Giacomo Bonaventura and Andrea Bertolacci on the left.
The one who will not play in midfield will be picked for the offensive midfield role. Brocchi wants a very dynamic and eclectic trequartista, who can both play wide or through the middle so that his (and Berlusconi’s!) favourite 4-3-1-2 system can easily become a 4-3-3 with two wingers and a sole striker.
As far as AC Milan’s attacking force is concerned, Carlos Bacca will be the main forward, while the supporting striker (probably Mario Balotelli against Sampdoria) will be also asked to operate in a wide position when the offensive midfielder does the same.
Brocchi will try to solve AC Milan’s woes in the last six games of the campaign before rivalling Juventus in the Coppa Italia final. Will his tactical changes be enough to get the club back to where they deserve?
