Exclusive: Grosskreutz offered to Roma, who want Widmer and Papu Gomez

Ahead of this weekend’s Derby della Capitale, transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano has taken us behind the scenes of both Roma and Lazio, to find out whether Serie A’s current runners-up and fourth-placed side can bolster their squads come January.

While Lazio don’t seem to have any great emergencies in defence, the same cannot be said for Roma, who have seen Ervin Zukanovic leave and Mario Rui go down before the season with a grievous injury.

They now need a full-back who can push Antonio Rudiger back inside, and are looking for someone cheap. Having discarded the likes of Maicon and Martin Caceres, the Lupa is said to be chasing Silvan Widmer of Udinese, Pablo Zabaleta (tougher) of Manchester City, but have also had former Borussia Dortmund star Kevin Grosskreutz be offered to them by Stuttgart, who are currently in the German second division.

On the wing, meanwhile, the Lupa needs an alternative to Alessandro Florenzi (injured) and Mohamed Salah (set to play in the African Cup of Nations). While Papu Gomez of Atalanta looks to be complicated, the Giallorossi want someone cheaper, and are looking overseas for names.
