EXCLUSIVE: Fiorentina made huge mistake with promising youngster, says Lo Monaco
Capezzi was loaned out to Crotone last summer and the newly promoted Serie A side activated their option to sign the 21-year-old to permanent deal at the end of the last campaign. Fiorentina had the chance to activate a buy-back clause, but having failed to do so, Capezzi is now officially under contract with Crotone.
Fiorentina are struggling to find agreements with their players who are running out of contract. An example? Riccardo Montolivo left the club for free in 2012, joining AC Milan as a free agent. Adem Ljajic and Neto followed the Italy International’s path just a few years later.

So what’s the problem of Fiorentina with players who have their contracts expiring? Talking exclusively to calciomercato.com, former Catania sporting director Pietro Lo Monaco said: “Capezzi had only one year left on his contract and loaning him out was not a good decision. Clubs should never give a player on loan if he has less than two years left on his contract.”
“They made the mistake last season, not this summer. They shouldn’t have loaned Capezzi out.”
“They have done the same with Piccini, another interesting youngster. Losing your best youths is a shame. The club have probably decided they don’t need them.”
