Exclusive: Empoli hero Skorupski could be Roma's future | by Fabrizio Romano
Lukasz Skorupski has had a heck of a season at Empoli, culminating in a fantastic performance last night against AS Roma.
The only problem… is that Skorupski belongs to Roma, and that the saves he made in keeping the score on 0-0 have stopped his parent side in its tracks.
Already excellent last season, Skorupski was discovered by Walter Sabatini when he was playing for Gornik Zabrze, and had already starred with Poland’s Under-21 side.
This isn’t the first time that the 25-year-old Zabrze native has kept his team in a game this season, almost helping Empoli cross the line against Napoli.
There’s a reason that Roma pipped Arsenal for Skorupski back in 2013, when the Gunners were ready to make an offer, only for the goalkeeper to move to the Olimpico for €800k.
Now, Skorupski is on a clever loan deal to Empoli, which includes a revewal with Roma until 2021, which the Giallorossi added recently.
The shotstopper may have been a good deal in the past… but he may also be the club’s future.
