EXCLUSIVE: ‘Barcelona still following his philosophy’, Prandelli pays tribute to Cruyff

Ajax, Barcelona and Netherland legend Joahn Cruyff has died of cancer aged 68.

Talking exclusively to calciomercato.com, former Italy national team coach Cesare Prandelli paid tribute to one of the greatest footballers of all times.

“He’s been an idol for my generation. He broke the mold of football with new ideas and a new philosophy.”

“His talent was so immense, he could have played everywhere in the pitch, even as a skipper. He had stunning dribbling skills, was an aggressive runner with lot of quality. A modern footballer for his times, maybe even too much.”

“Cruyff made history at Barcelona, so much so the club is still following his philosophy. He was the first Barça manager to understand how important ball possession and style of play are in order to win games and trophies.”

“It was him who asked to enlarge the Camp Nou’s pitch to take advantage  of wide players running down both flanks.”
