EXCLUSIVE Agresti: Sabatini responsible for Roma's fiasco
AS Roma have qualified for the next round of the Champions League... so now we can say that this Lupa team is an embarassment.
It’s almost useless to talk about tonight's Champions League game against Borisov, that has allowed the giallorossi to qualify after a group stage where they lost 6-1 to Barcelona. Let’s just say that it’s rare to see a team that achieves a target getting out of the pitch while the fans boo. It’s on the contrary useful to focus on those who are guilty for such a disaster. In Rome it has become popular to put the blame on Garcia, who has definitely made a lot of mistakes; the fans put the blame on the players. We think that the main responsible of such situation is Walter Sabatini.
Recently, Sabatini said: ‘I choose the players, at most I ask the coach’s opinion’. Ok, it’s right, as the coaches go and the players stay, and the club counts on them for the future. But, at the same time, it’s also right that who makes certain decisions takes the responsibility for them: who sold Romagnoli, Yanga-Mbiwa and Astori and thought that Rudiger and Gyomber could replace them? Who sent Ljajic away and kept Iturbe? Who disintegrated the team last January with Ibarbo, Doumbia and Spolli? Right, Sabatini. Sabatini has been considered a ‘magician’ of the transfer market. For sure, he has discovered some young talents, but he has also paid lots of money some anonimous players. He’s about to set a record in Rome: he’s at his fifth season and he hasn’t won anything, not even a small cup. Maybe Pallotta should ask to meditate: are the fans wrong when they boo the players? Or maybe the president himself has made a mistake by giving so much confidence to Sabatini?
