    EURO 2016: Belgium’s 3-0 win over Ireland guarantees Italy first place finish in group E

    Belgium hammered Ireland 3-0 on Saturday afternoon and the Diables Rouges’ win guarantees Italy first place finish in group E. Italy won their first two games against Belgium (2-0) and Sweden (1-0) and even a loss in the last game against Ireland national team on Wednesday night would not influence Italy’s fist place as the azzurri have already won their direct meeting against Belgium, the only team left in group E that can still rack up six points.

    Italy will face the runner-up of group D which is composed by Spain, Croatia, Czech Republic and Turkey. Croatia are the most likely to become the azzurri’s opponents in the knock-out stage unless they beat defending champions Spain in the last game of the group stage.

    Italy will play the last-16 tie on Monday night at Paris’ Saint Denis.
