Football has changed: Italy has not.
Once upon a time Italian football was beautiful and successful, dreamt of by footballers all over the world. Apart from Inter in 2010, it is not what it was. Too many scandals, a heavy tax system, beaurocracy and a law for stadiums which is not updated, have relegated the Italian football to a minor role in Europe. Germany is now ahead in the UEFA ranking with France and Portugal just behind.
The great champions are not arriving, rather, they are leaving, like Sanchez and Pastore, perhaps Lamela and Alvarez. Foreign investors, Sheiks or magnates, come to Italy to spend their holidays and negotiate for players, not to invest.
Italian clubs are economically disadvantaged and prefer to loan players rather than acquire them. The negotiations are long, difficult and not always successful, like the one for Rossi. Things are easier abroad, also in clubs like Malaga and Psg. Football has changed, Italy is behind.
