Could Francesco Totti still have a future with Roma?
Totti started two games – against Frosinone and Sassuolo – during the Frenchman’s reign at the Olimpico, then he missed the Sampodira clash to make his comeback against Carpi. During the game against the White-And-Reds he picked up a muscle injury which has eventually changed his season.
Totti was expected to remain out of action for just a month, but the truth is he could only return to the pitch on the 9th of January, the last game of Rudi Garcia in charge of the Giallorossi.
When Luciano Spalletti took over at the club, Totti came off the bench in the reverse game against Frosinone, when he delivered a magnificent assist for Miralem Pjanic’s goal. Thanks to his appearance against the Ciociari he became the third player with the most games played in Serie A after the likes of Janvier Zanetti and the unreachable Paolo Maldini.
Today, Totti has only 5 seasonal appearances, a negative personal record at this stage of the season. Roam’s captain has never been playing so little in his career. The years he racked up the less appearances were in 1992-1993 (2) and 1993-1994 (10). Since the 1994-1995 campaign, then, he has always played more than 25 games per year, managing 29 in 2005-2006 and 2013-2014, when two serious injuries kept him sidelined for quite a few months.
With his contract expiring next June, Totti is going to talk to his club to understand their plans for the future. Whether he’ll decide to stay or to go, Totti, for the moment, is still the most influential personality inside the Giallorossi dressing room as well as the most popular player among fans.
Despite his lack of playing time, Totti still remains the king of Rome.
