Christian Abbiati’s words after his bitter farewell to football

AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati is set to retire at the end of the season and with Gianluigi Donnarumma set to start the Coppa Italia final against Juvents next week, there are only few chances to see him back to the pitch once again.

Here’ what he told Mediaset Premium after yesterday’s 3-1 defeat at hands of AS Roma

“I had not imagined my farewell to football after such a bad defeat. But fans remained at the stadium to say goodbye to me, I am indebted with them.”

“I’ve made this decision also because AC Milan have not been able to remain at the top for long time now and that hurts me too much. I think it’s the right time to end my career.”

“I don’t know if my future will be at the club. I’ll talk to Galliani, but now I’ll be focused on motorbike, another great passion of mine.”

“We’ve lost too many points against teams behind us in the table and we’ve always failed to make a step forward when we had to. I don’t know if sacking Mihajlovic was a mistake. It is everyone’s faults.
