Catalan press hit out at ‘shameful’ Serie A ref Rizzoli for costing Barcelona UCL semi-final place
Luis Enrique’s side faced elimination at hands of Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid and the Catalan press has hit out at the referee Nicola Rizzoli for not awarding the Blaugrana side a penalty kick for Gabi’s handball in the second half.

Rizzoli, who had already refereed one Champions League and one World Cup final, judged Gabi’s handball outside the penalty area, awarding Barcelona a free kick instead of the penalty.
“Grizman and the referee eliminate Barcelona”, “Eliminated by a theft” and “Shameful” are just three examples which highlights how bad the Catalan press have welcomed the Italian referee’s decision in Barcelona’s dramatic Champions League quarter final tie.
