‘Better call Saul’: Juve, Barça and Man Utd pounce on Atletico starlet
From yesterday Atletico Madrid’s fans must be repeating the same refrain as their talented and versatile midfielder Saul Niguez Esclapez netted the winner in the Colchoneros’ 1-0 over Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final.
Born in 1994, Saul was out on loan at Rayo Vallecano two years ago, when Diego Simeone’s side won the La Liga title and went close to lifting the Champions League. The product of Real Madrid academy had left the Santiango Bernabeu due to off the field matters to join Atletico and he has already scored 8 goals in all competitions this term.
Saul can play both as offensive midfielder or winger. He has recently refused a contract extension with his club and according to Marca he could be off the Manchester United, Juventus or Barcelona.
The blaugrana in particular could be the club in pole position to sign the 22-year-old midfielder in case he’d decide not to stay at the Vicente Calderon next season.
His Atletico Madrid deal runs until 2020, but the decision of rejecting a contract extension offer has made his future at the club more uncertain.
It is worth adding that the 40% of Saul’s economic rights belong to a private found attributable to Atletico Madrid’s counsellor Peter Kenyon and the powerful players’ agent Jorge Mendes.
