Barcelona scout the next Puyol
The 21-year-old defender is impressing with the Basque club so far this season having already collected nine appearances in all competitions.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the blaugrana have sent their scouts to watch Alvarez several times since the beginning of the 2016-17 campaign and all the reports of the Spanish club’s talent scouts are extremely positive.
Alvarez is said to be very similar to Puyol not only for his long and curly hairstyle. The Spanish defender combines pace and physical strength, not to mention that his personality might be the quality that has impressed Barcelona scouts the most.
The ‘next Puyol’ made his debut with Athletic Bilbao senior team last September in the LaLiga side’s 3-0 defeat to Sassuolo in Europa League.
Barcelona are also said to be interested in signing Alvarez’s teammate Aymeric Laporte who is also believed to be a target of former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola who tried to sign the Spanish defender last summer before sealing the transfer of John Stones.
