Barcelona: Prosecutor asks for two-year prison sentence for Neymar
It’s a request that would shake football to its foundations; El Mundo Deportivo reports that Spanish prosecutors have asked for Barcelona and Brazilian superstar Neymar to be sent to prison for two-years for his involvement in the events leading up to his move to the Camp Nou in 2013.
The case stems from a complaint by Brazilian investment group DIS, which owned 40% of Neymar's transfer rights and alleges it received less money than it was entitled to from transfer fee. Barcelona made a deal with the prosecutors in June and paid £4.7 million to avoid a trial on the charges of tax evasion over the transfer.
The Catalan giants thought that when Judge Jose de la Mata archived the case in June, that it would be the end of the matter but the prosecutor managed to get the ruling overturned and now former club President Sandro Rosell, Neymar and his father are all set to stand trial.
The 24-year-old recently signed a lucrative new five-year deal with the club
