ANALYSIS: Montella can be happy with strikers, but urges to bring in defensive reinforcement
M’Baye Niang was one of the best players for AC Milan once again. Scorer of a brace against Sassuolo, he picked up a muscle injury that is worrying Montella a bit, considering that the diavoli debut game in Serie A is in just ten days time.
Carlos Bacca made his first appearance since returning from holiday. The Colombia International played 45 minutes against Celta Vigo and missed two good chances, but Vincenzo Montella was impressed by the player’s will and attitude on the pitch. Bacca has yet to agree a move to West Ham and his stay at AC Milan is also in the cards.
Some very negative news is coming from the defensive block. AC Milan allowed three goals in 20 minutes against Sassuolo and although the defensive line was composed by De Sciglio, Paletta, Vergara and Calabria, it is pretty clear that Gustavo Gomez can’t be the only centre-back signed by AC Milan this summer.
Cristian Zapata and Rodrigo Ely are injured, Alessio Romagnoli is the only fully-fit centre defender of the squad and 12 goals allowed in five friendly games this summer suggest that the diavoli would better focus their attention on a new centre-back.
