ANALYSIS: Juventus' injury crisis caused by summer training camp

It's been a recurring theme since Max Allegri took over at Juventus: the Bianconeri are always awash with injuries. Though it's a complicated issue and is caused by a number of factors, we need to try to at least get an understanding of why the Bianconeri started the season so badly, without Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira, Alvaro Morata and Mario Mandzukic, to name a few.

Wouldn't the Bianconeri have done so much better (they already came very close to pulling off a brilliant coup) in Munich if the likes of Chiellini, Dybala, Mandzukic and Marchisio. Allegri recently underlined that calf injuries are a recurring issue. The talk in town is that Julius Tous, who was the physio under Antonio Conte, could return to the Juventus staff.

One reason for the Bianconeri's struggles is the summer training camp. Allegri spoke about it again, and made out that it was unavoidable. The Italian Super Cup - help on August 8th - effectively forced the club's hand, pushing it to call up its players on July 20th, leaving the players little time to rest. Even the Bianconeri's summer friendlies haven't helped in previous years, reducing the Bianconeri's physical and strength conditioning to a one or two-week period. Though other teams have this problem, the Bianconeri used to spend 20 days or so in the mountains, allowing the players to bond better, too.

Juventus need to do everything they can to get back to that summer camp. Otherwise, this problem may impact their European chances in years to come.
