Allardyce: City of London Police open full investigation into possible corruption

The case surrounding Sam Allardyce’s departure from the England national team continues. The former Sunderland and West Ham boss was sacked in late September when the DailyTelegraph newspaper went undercover to film him explaining how to get around third-party ownership of players. Now the police have opened a full investigation into possible corruption.

At the time of his dismissal, Allardyce stated that; “I am confident that there will be no further evidence against me”. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police however, has spoken to Sky Sports confirming that a full investigation is now under way explaining that; “Detectives in the economic department at Scotland Yard have examined the material collected from the recent survey done by the Daily Telegraph newspaper and have decided to start a full criminal investigation. So far, no arrests have been made”.

England face Scotland this evening in a high-profile World Cup qualifier at Wembley with interim coach Gareth Southgate still favourite to replace Allardyce as full-time boss.
