Marcos Alonso and Fiorentina have yet to renew the Spaniard’s contract. Should this be reason enough for Fiorentina fans to worry?

Well, it could be according to his father, who played 124 La Liga games for Barcelona back in the 1980s.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Sport, Alonso’s father, who also happens to be his agent, revealed that he’d like his son- a former Sunderland flop - to play for Barcelona one day.

“It’s not up to me to tell my son what to do. He’s an affirmed footballer and his future is his business.

“We only found out about Barcelona’s interest through the papers. Considering my past I’d like to see him wear the Azulgrana shirt, but no-one has called us, or contacted us in any way.

Alonso Senior went on to confirm that the Viola had offered his son a five-year-deal, but that his son is enjoying both life and football in Florence.

“My son is very happy in Florence, the team is doing great on all fronts and Marcos is having an excellent season. We have a five-year offer on the table, but we’re yet to agree to anything”.
