Agent: 'Tottenham wanted Icardi, too'
The Nerazzurri captain came under fire from fans and media alike for immediately asking for a new deal (through agent/wife Wanda) as soon as the club was taken over by Suning.
This led to a late-summer courtship with Napoli, though Mrs Icardi claimed other teams were interested in the 23-year-old, too, including Tottenham Hotspur.
‘Inter sporting director Piero Ausillo asked me to take any offers from clubs for Icardi to him, so I went with those of Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and Juventus,’ Wanda revealed yesterday at the launch of her husband's autobiography.
‘There was also Tottenham too, but they went directly through Piero.’
‘The first day of the transfer market, I called Piero, and asked “do you remember the promise of a new contract] last year?”‘
‘He said, “Wanda, I hear you”. At that point, I demanded the truth. Mauro has to stay or leave. Because there were so many offers.’
