Everton & West Ham suffer injury setbacks ahead of the new season

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has suffered an injury setback with less than a month to go until the start of the new campaign. The Toffees have announced that defender Ramiro Funes Mori will be out for up to nine months after needing further surgery on a knee injury picked up on international duty back in March.

Koeman had hoped to have the 26-year-old Argentine ready for the new season but The Sun reports that the player has undergone another operation in Barcelona to try to cure the problem. This may lead to the Dutch tactician to dip back into the transfer market for a replacement having already bolstered his squad during the summer sales.

West Ham United have also lost a key member of their squad for the opening weeks of the new campaign after midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate was injured in a pre-season friendly in Austria against Sturm Graz. Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has declared that the 27-year-old will miss the clubs first three Premier League games against Manchester United, Southampton and Newcastle.
