AC Milan refused to sign Spurs star in 2008

Interestingly, Sportmediaset.it have revisited 2008 when AC Milan had the chance to sign the attacking midfielder but refused to pay Odense’s €800,000 asking price. Instead they opted to sign Alexander Merkel who has since gone on to flop at both Genoa and Udinese. The 25-year-old Kazakh-German currently plies his trade with VfL Bochum in Germany’s second tier.
Looking back now, what a bargain that would have been had the Rossoneri been willing to stump up a modest fee for a player who is establishing himself as one of the best of his kind in the modern game.
