Wantaway de Jong set for Bundesliga return
The Holland International is recovering from a strained flexor at his left thigh, but his last seasonal appearance with the Rossoneri shirt is dated back to the 27th of September, when he featured for 45 meaningless minutes in Milan’s 1-0 away defeat against Genoa.
As previously reported, de Jong is no longer on Sinisa Mihajlovic’s good book as the Serbian manager considers him nothing more than a backup of Italy International Riccardo Montolivo, who is playing on a regular basis at San Siro.
The 31-year-old wants to leave in the upcoming January transfer window and the club doesn’t seem to have lost any sleep over the player’s will as de Jong is on a € 3 million deal per year until 2018 and his departure would allow the Diavoli to unburden the club’s budget.
The player could make his Bundesliga return, a league which is already familiar to him as he wore the Hamburger SV shirt from 2006 to 2009, when Manchester City acquired him for € 18 million.
De Jong’s former club are reported to be interested in the player’s services as well as Werder Bremen and Shalke 04, while Luis Van Gaal has other plans to strengthen Manchester United’s midfield in January.
