Totti: ‘I was close to joining Real Madrid’
“The year after we won the Serie A title I was very close to joining Real Madrid. That was the club I wanted to play for if I had to leave AS Roma. I wouldn’t have joined any other Italian club out of respect for fans. I did not join Real Madrid because many things changed. The president didn’t want me to go even if we had an argument. Than my family and my friends made me understand that here I have many things I wouldn’t have had in Madrid.”
