Stefano Pioli remains the favourite candidate for the Inter job
Pioli is the manager Piero Ausilio would like to bring at Inter to try to improve the team’s results and snatch a Champions League spot which is eight points far at the moment. The Italian tactician remains the favourite candidate for his experience in Serie A.
Marcelino, a possible replacement of De Boer, backed by Kia Joorabchian and probably the favourite candidate of Suning, has no knowledge of Italian football and would take time to adapt to a new league, just like the Dutch boss did.
Andre Villas Boas had also emerged as a potential candidate, but the Portuguese manager is set to join Shanghai SIPG, replacing former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Inter, however, have no more time to lose and need to hire a manger with experience in Italian football. The squad is training in Southampton at the moment and will return to Milan today. Ausilio, on the other hand, is already flying to Italy where he will meet Suning representatives today explaining why he thinks Pioli would be the best replacement for De Boer.
