OPINION: Forget Joao Mario, Inter urge to sign a playmaker
Inter have still the same old problem: there is no clear planning. In footballing terms, Franck De Boer and Roberto Mancini have different ideas. The Italian tactician had built the team around the 4-2-3-1 system, with Banega who was deployed in his favourite position: attacking midfielder behind the main striker. De Boer’s favourite system is the 4-3-3, but the Dutch boss picked a 3-5-2 formation in his first official game in charge of Inter aginst Chievo last Sunday.
Banega was clearly played out of position in the Bentegodi clash. The player with more quality in the team is playing close to Medel and Kondogbia, two players who think with their muscles rather than with their feet. Those kind of players need a proper playmaker playing on their sides, they need a man who can give some order to Inter’s style.
Inter’s project suddenly changed less than two weeks ago when Erick Thohir saked Roberto Mancini to hire De Boer. The nerazzurri had to start from the very beginning once again, with a new manager, new ideas and new plans for the future.
With Joao Mario who is rumoured to be close to joining the San Siro, Inter’s chiefs should ask themselves if the Portuguese star is what they really need or whether they should invest those money for a proper regista.
