Mancini at Wembley, could he be the successor to Allardyce?
This afternoons World Cup qualifier between England and Malta will have one particularly interested spectator in the stands. Former Inter boss Roberto Mancini was spotted making his way into Wembley Stadium earlier after this week being linked with the job after Sam Allardyce’s recent departure.
Despite Gareth Southgate being put in interim charge of the team for the next four matches, it’s still to be decided who will get the job on a full-time basis. Mancini has never ruled out the possibility of switching from club to international football management and was even mentioned as a possible successor to Antonio Conte for the Italian national team role.
With Southgate still the bookmakers favourite, Mancini was recently quoted as second favourite and his appearance this afternoon as part of a crowd of around 80,000, will only continue to fuel speculation that he could still be in the minds of the Football Association.
