Manchester United and AC Milan to go head to head for Portuguese promise

Manchester United have set sights on Portuguese winger Gelson Martins who is one of the most promising player that Portuguese football can offer at the moment. The 21-year-old attacking winger impressed with Sporting CP yesterday night despite his side’s 1-0 defeat at hands of Borussia Dortmund.

AC Milan, however, are also keeping a close eye on the promising winger who, however, is not likely to leave his club in January.

Gelson Martins is just another product of the Portuguese’s club academy. The likes of Simao, Quaresma, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Joao Mario are all coming from the same academy, not to mention that 10 out of 14 Portuguese players deployed during the EURO 2016 final are also products of the Sporting CP cantera.

The Portuguese starlet has seven assists and two goals in the opening 14 games of the season and his club area already planning a huge capital gained having signed him from Futeblo Benfica six years ago for just € 30.000. Gelson Martins made senior debut with Portugal last month and the release clause included in his contract expiring in 2021, is set to € 60 million.

AC Milan and Manchester United could go head-to-head for the Portuguese promise next summer, but Inter are also believed to be credible contenders, given their good relations with Sporting CP.
