Man United flop Schweinsteiger offered $16.5 to join MLS cellar dwellers Chicago Fire

It looks like ailing Manchester United sub Bastian Schweinsteiger’s future could well be in the MLS, if recent reports are anything to go by.

In fact, Goal USA’s sources have the Chicago Fire offering the former German international a massive $5.5m, three-year deal.

The 32-year-old is considered by Coach Jose Mourinho to be expendable, barely playing since joining the Old Trafford side last summer.

Schweini has arguably been very unlucky, his body breaking down on him just as he embarked on his English adventure, injuries limiting him to 18 Premier League appearances last season… and none at all so far in this campaign.

Chicago Fire could very much do with the boost, having come last in the Eastern Conference standings, earning the lowest amount of points in the MLS (Houston Dynamo got 34) and the joint-lowest (with Houston again) number of wins (7).

The German is only one of many Premier League surplus players who could make the jump in January, our own Guglielmo Cannavale listing many of them in a recent feature.
