Klopp makes contact with Lazio star as Liverpool get set to fight it out with Juventus for his signature
The future of Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij will not be with Lazio; the 25-year-old has made it clear to club bosses that he has no intention of renewing his deal in the Italian capital with just one year left to run, and that looks to have set off a fierce battle to land his signature ahead of the new campaign.
Calciomercato.com has learned that Liverpool have already made contact with his representatives with boss Jurgen Klopp a huge admirer of the player. There may also be a challenge from Premier League champions Chelsea with Antonio Conte linked with a move for his services 12 months ago.
Now it’s understood that Juventus has entered the race and see de Vrij as an alternative to PSG centre-back Marquinhos. With Lazio patron Claudio Lotito believed to be looking for offers in the region of €25M, the Dutchman would make a cheaper alternative to the Brazilian who would cost around €60M.
De Vrij’s career with the Biancocelesti has been severely hit by injuries since his arrival in 2014. Last season however, saw him develop into one of the best centre-back’s in Serie A and since the turn of the year, interest from around Europe has once again been growing and now a summer move looks inevitable.
