Higuain won’t extend Napoli contract, says agent

The future of Gonzalo Higuain will be far from Napoli. The Argentinean striker’s agent (and brother) Nicolas has released an interview with Closs Argentina revealing that his brother won’t be extending his contract with the club expiring in June 2018.

“That’s the current situation: [Napoli president]Aurelio De Laurentiis only wants to sell Higuain for the release clause and he has the right to do so, because there is a clause on Higuain’s contract.”

“At the same time, we have the right to refuse his contract extension offer. When we decided to join Napoli, the president promised us that he would have begun a winning project.”

“He said we would have played the Champions League and win the Serie A. He did not keep his promise.”
“De Laurentiis can ask for the release clause, but we have decided that we won’t extend our contract with Napoli.”

Higuain netted 36 goals in 35 Serie A games last term establishing a new scoring record for the Italian league.
The 28-year-old hit-man moved to the San Paolo from Real Madrid on a € 38 million deal in 2013 and his release clause is set to € 94 million.

PSG and Chelsea are believed to be the most interested clubs in welcoming the striker’s services.
