Buffon wins the Golden Foot award, the fourth Italian to do so
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has picked up another award today when he was presented with Golden Foot Hublot award in Monte Carlo. The award is presented to players over 28-years-old based on their athletic achievements and personality, with each winner leaving a permanent mould of their footprints on the 'Champions Promenade' in Monaco. It is organised by the World Champions Club under the patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco.
Buffon beat off competition from the likes of Edinson Cavani, Frank Lampard, Iker Casillas, Kaka, Thiago Silva and Andrea Pirlo. The award can only be won once in an individual’s lifetime and the 38-year-old becomes the fourth Italian to receive the trophy after Roberto Baggio (2003), Alex Del Piero (2007) and Francesco Totti (2010).
Some other famous names to also win the award are Ronaldo, Giggs, Ibrahimovic, Drogba, Iniesta and Eto ‘o.
